“Oh god. We’re trapped. What if we can’t get out? And I get stuck in here forever… with you!”

Cross tackles grief and the difficulties with communicating in the aftermath of loss. As Emily and her Mum, Bridget, find themselves trapped within the bizarre confines of their local Church they struggle to un wedge the door, bringing their strained relationship to the surface and forcing them to confront the unspoken pain they are both carrying. As emotions run high, this gripping play unravels the complexities of grief, exposing the fragile threads that connect us all.

Written by Kitty Evans, and produced by Pistachio Theatre Company, Cross is the third of Evans’ full-length plays following Four Sisters, co-written with Safia Lamrani, (2021, Hope Theatre) and Checkout (2024, Lion and Unicorn Theatre). Checkout, a one-person comedy centring supermarket worker Lucy, received 4 and 5 star reviews and was described as “relatable”, “engaging”, and crucially having “something to say” (Theatre Weekly). Evans has been described as having a “deft awareness of language, tone and character” that could lead her onto “big things in the future” (Review of Fours Sisters, A Younger Theatre).
Pistachio Theatre Company was founded by Kitty Evans and Safia Lamrani in 2022 and has had a highly successful two years, producing four scratch nights, one full length production and three new writing festivals.
